Keeping the Weather Out and Comfort in Steel Buildings
One of the reasons people use metal buildings is because they were designed by the military to serve as all-purpose buildings that could withstand many different types of heavy weather. These buildings have been known to remain standing after hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and blizzards. These buildings are made out of steel alloy or other durable, impenetrable materials, so there’s not much that can damage them.
Insulation
Of course, being metal, steel buildings are in need of a little help. Their metal exterior makes them more likely to be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. That’s why, if you’re going to be using them for living or work space, you have to insulate your building. Insulating them is a little more challenging than insulating a traditional building. However, even though it’s a little more expensive, it’s not that difficult. Spray insulation is often used and can be done either inside or outside. Of course, exterior insulation will need to be replaced and repaired regularly, but it will still keep the interior of your building nice and comfortable.
The Windows and Doors
Some buildings have a front wall where the windows and doors are. This gives the building more of an inviting face that’s not “an ugly metal building,” as some people call these steel building kits. Of course, this front wall will need to be insulated, too, and you’ll want to make certain that all of the windows here (any anywhere else) are sealed up and have no leaks. It’s also important that the edges of the building (between the curved or mostly curved main piece and the front and back sections) are sealed completely so no air leaks in or out.
Heating and Cooling
You can use any type of heating and cooling system in your building, although due to the open interior, you may have exposed duct work for central heat and air. You can add a drop ceiling to hide that, of course, but some people prefer to work the ducts into their design and go for an industrial, modern décor. You can also use space heaters and window units, but there is a limitation on windows here. Most buildings only have windows on the two ends, not on the curved section of the building. It is possible to put windows in some of the models of our Mayflower Steel Buildings, though, just not in the traditional half-circle version.
