Archery Season Checklist

An Archery Season Checklist

Are you a bow hunter? If you love hunting and enjoy archery, it’s a great sport. However, before you head out to hunt, you need to make certain that you have all of your gear. Most people think all you really need is a bow and arrow, but you actually need much more.

Your Equipment

Of course, you’ll need a really good bow and a set of nice arrows. But then you’ll also want to have a quiver to hold your arrows so you can easily carry them. You may also want to have a nice bow case to protect your bow while you’re driving or in storage. You may also want to have different arrowheads or different arrows for hunting different things. Then you might want a backpack to carry extra supplies like water, a GPS, and some snacks. Then you need an armguard so you don’t hurt your arm, an extra bow string, some bowstring wax, and possibly even a bow sight. Don’t forget emergency supplies such as a flashlight, extra batteries, a blanket, your cell phone and an emergency phone charger, and a first aid kit.

Your Clothing

You’ll want to wear something very comfortable while you’re out hunting because you’ll spend a good amount of time in one position waiting for your target. In most cases, hunters wear several layers of clothing if it’s cool since they won’t be moving around very much. You definitely want to have a bright orange vest so others can see you. You may also want to be sure you have gloves and a hat. Depending on the weather, you may want to bring a raincoat with you or wear a face mask if there’s a biting wind.

Your Deer Stand

Many bow hunters will set up a deer stand to hunt from. If you’re hunting on your own land, you may even want to put up a small metal hut to use as your base while hunting. You can add a hunter’s perch or tower to the building, too. You will wait up in this tower until you see whatever it is you’re hunting. Having a building to hunt from also gives you a place to keep all of your extra equipment such as cold weather gear, food, and a first aid kit. If you plan on doing some early morning hunting and don’t want to set up a tent, you could even camp out in your metal hut.
